Amazing sunset.

Winter Trees

A wide angle view of the most incredible sunset I have ever witnessed.

This image may not show an iconic location, but anyone who lives in Dorset, Devon or Somerset who was out and about on this evening back in January 2015 will remember this sky.

I have never, ever seen a sunset quite like it. On a whim, I was heading up the hill at the back of our house with a camera. By the time I reached the halfway mark I was already running. The sky was merging above me into strange, unknown shapes, highlighted in places by the setting sun. By the time I reached the top I was utterly flabbergasted. The sky was on fire. The colours were so bright that I honestly felt as if I’d been teleported onto another planet. It was, and still is, one of the most amazing spectacles I have ever seen. And, unlike many sunsets, it lasted for a considerably long time. Even as darkness fell it held on, a smoldering formation of cloud and light.

If I live to see another one like it, I will consider myself very lucky indeed.
