Eype Cliffs Bridport

The sandstone cliffs of West Bay and Burton Bradstock in Dorset are often photographed from below, but for this photograph I shot them from above (and a little to the west.)

Early one morning, I made my way up the steep hill to Thorncombe Beacon from Eype for sunrise. On my return journey, I was fascinated by the murky coastline stretching out before me. Mist plunged down to the sea between West Bay and Burton Bradstock and the cliffs around Eype were crowned with golden light. In fact, I think it is the light and shade that makes this photograph, adding pronounced contrast and depth.
