‘Barrow’ Original Drawing

Original charcoal drawing on vintage paper, signed and dated on the reverse.

This is Win Green, the highest point in the Cranborne Chase. It is 277m high and on its summit a copse of Beech trees grow, known as the Win Green Clump. I think of them as a witch wood, a secluded place high above the surrounding landscape. It was certainly a significant place for our ancestors, as evidence of a Bronze Age bowl barrow, a kind of burial mound, has been discovered by archeologists beneath the trees.
