‘Pied Flycatcher’ Painted Stone

This charming summer visitor to UK shores arrives around mid-April from its wintering grounds in West Africa and heads back south in September. The males are a striking mix of black and white whereas the females have the same patterning with a more subdued tone. I have painted this male mid-song because I am always so impressed with the way that some small birds migrate such vast distances and yet within minutes of arriving at their breeding grounds, they start to sing.

Dimensions: 8cm x 8cm
