‘Kittiwake’ Painted Stone

Kittiwakes are gentle-looking Gulls which spend the winter out in the Atlantic. They nest in colonies and usually use rock ledges and cliffs as breeding sites. However, there is a colony in Newcastle, making it the most inland breeding colony of Kittiwakes in the world. They congregate on the Tyne Bridge, where more than one thousand pairs breed.
